An individual who contaminated treats with sedative and provided them to minors at a youth camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two young males both nine and ten years old.

The defendant was taken into custody after eight children and an older person experienced illness at the facility in July.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.

Yet, he disputed one particular crime he was accused of, which was concerning a young boy.

Ruben was kept in jail prior to a subsequent court date on 28 November.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, described Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.

She said his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a youth camp which he ran.

The man conducted a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel explained, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge the defendant had engaged in this activity with the children "for many years", and children had previously fallen ill the next day.

She said the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had suspicions in summer 2025.

The prosecutor continued: "This year his stepson had suspicions about the situation, for good reason.

"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC said materials including baby oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were discovered, and his stepson notified the police about his suspicions.

She explained the man went on to play the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.

"The police had not responded by that stage," she stated further.

The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

The prosecutor said the minors were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the law enforcement a second time.

She explained the defendant then conducted the "candy game" in a space of five children.
